Explore the world of Atalan T’ea

The Hole Inside the Earth – epic quest from the far past to the far future!

Only the Vampire Priests understand the Blood Moon Prophecy: “A drop of His blood fills the cup and brings the Blood Moon Dawn.”

“Lots of cool action and drew me well in.” – AHF Magazine.

Both men, distracted, stepped back. She knew they would be unbalanced, so she executed the estoc, her sword strike entering one man’s exposed right armpit. He fell.

I, Zosimyache, mercenary of ancient Greece, wrote this.
I once asked Omacron what time seemed like for one who had survived for so long in a tumultuous world.
“Time is meaningless,” he said.
“Then, what does have meaning?” I asked.
“Memory.”
This, then, is the story, as recalled by me and those Rememberers, few in number, who survived the last war on Earth.  I wasn’t there at the beginning, but I am here now in the tale that continues.

Too Bright the Sun – Progress in Promotions

BookCoverPreview

As you will see in the post below, I was very happy to find out today that Too Bright the Sun entered the Top 100 FREE Kindle books list on all three: Amazon USUK and Canada on Monday. Promoting my work takes me away from writing so it’s really nice to get some reward for all the effort I have put in over the last few weeks. I only wish I knew exactly what number it reached. You can rest assured I am watching the progress of Vampire: Beneficence (Short Stories III) very closely. Below I will discuss the results of the Amazon KDP Free Promotion for my books so far.

Vampire: Beneficence (Short Stories III)

So far there have been 131 downloads, 17 of them in Germany. It seems to be taking longer to get people’s attention with this one although it’s doing much better in the US than here. Perhaps the UK market really isn’t so keen on Vampire stories. Then again it’s been my experience that lycanthropy stories do well here in winter and not summer whereas for Science Fiction it’s the other way round. Another Vote – Best Sci-Fi Film

Okay time for the last vote of the year – and it’s a big one. Best Sci-Fi Film ever.

There are going to be lots of candidates and probably some discussion so I will kick it off with a few of my choices – in no particular order:

Blade Runner
Enemy Mine
Silent Running
2001: A Space Oddysey
Star Wars (all of them)
Star Trek (probably Wrath of Khan but I like a few others too)
Terminator
Dark City
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
X-Files – the Movie
Rocket to the Moon (for its sheer quaint charm)
Fantastic Voyage
The one with them surfing into the sun and the big inflatable alien. Continue reading “Another Vote – Best Sci-Fi Film”

Sci-fi Features Top Trump Factor

Welcome to the first one of a series of Sci-fi Top Trumps. In actual fact they will be Iron Top Trumps because that is the provisional name of my new sci-fi novel. Its set mainly on Io, moon of Jupiter and Io has an iron core. There’s something about the Iron Cross as well but don’t get the wrong idea. Also there is a deeper meaning but that will only become apparent much later if you read the story.

So what Top Trumps? For those of you that haven’t come across them before they are a pack of cards with items on which have varying numbers of points attached to them depending on the quality/attributes of the item. For instance for cars you might have a card for a Mini and an E-Type Jaguar. Clearly the Jag is heavier, faster and more powerful than the mini so it would beat it on every attribute in a game of cards where you call out your strongest attribute. So for my Iron Top Trumps the attributes are:

Coolnest
Cost
Usefulness
Futurosity (how far in the future you might have to go to get one)
Weakness (lowest score wins)

Scores are out of 10 Continue reading “Sci-fi Features Top Trump Factor”

Sci-fi or not sci-fi? That is the question

Well. I do have a new idea for a story. It has been around a few weeks now and the story could be as part of a thriller or a sci-fi story. I have published both types in the past – both have their advantages, and sometimes a story just wants to be one or the other.

In this particular case, the story could be either and I may write it as a short story first just to see if there is enough on the bones to warrant a full-length novel. So the question arises, should I do it as sci-fi or not?

Personally, given the difficulties I have had writing this last one, I am attracted to doing the next one as sci-fi. I just think putting it in a separate world will give me a little distance and make it just a little bit less of an emotional roller-coaster for me. I also quite look forward to writing descriptions of strange landscapes but I also need to keep grittiness in there because the story is quite gritty. I remember that Bladerunner is pretty gritty so it should be possible to combine both elements.
