Another Vote – Best Sci-Fi Film

Okay time for the last vote of the year – and it’s a big one. Best Sci-Fi Film ever.

There are going to be lots of candidates and probably some discussion so I will kick it off with a few of my choices – in no particular order:

Blade Runner
Enemy Mine
Silent Running
2001: A Space Oddysey
Star Wars (all of them)
Star Trek (probably Wrath of Khan but I like a few others too)
Dark City
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
X-Files – the Movie
Rocket to the Moon (for its sheer quaint charm)
Fantastic Voyage
The one with them surfing into the sun and the big inflatable alien.

I tried to post Gary’s comment for him because he was unable to but for some reason I was unable to either so here it is:

——————– End Gary’s Post ———————–

How could I forget Starship Troopers? Also Screamers which I did think of but couldn’t remember the name. Gary has included several more than once there and I have to agree that Enemy Mine is a very good film. Also I forgot Soylent Green and The Omega Man. Currently my provisional list would be:

10. Blade Runner
9. Soylent Green
8. 2001: A Space Oddyssey
7. Enemy Mine
6. Total Recall
5. Screamers
5. Star Trek: Wrath of Khan
4. Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country (actually only the first hour or so)
3. Mad Max
2. The Terminator
1. Total Recall

An honourable mention should go go two episodes of the original Star Trek series: The Corbomite Maneouvre and the original double episode The Menagerie (sometimes called The Cage)

I would certainly question your inclusion of Barbarella and all of the Star Treks Gary, but the Farenheit 451 is a good choice.
