Weekly Updates

Each week I am going to be posting updates on my current projects. I am also going to try to post a sneak preview of one of the projects here. Copyright and IPR these days is complex so I will only be posting very short sections and I may have to delete them when the work is published. I make no mistake for any errors or typos: these are going to be first drafts. Below you will find the first sneak preview – from Iron III, provisionally entitled Worlds Like Dust.

Don’t forget the Ordo Lupus and the Temple Gate puzzle competition in the post below.

Sneak Preview of Iron III: Worlds Like Dust

If you have read Iron II: Unknown Place, Unknown Universe, you will know the character of A-schian’bakî as the Captain of the Ischian space-battleship Lu-kshîa.

Commander of the Fleet and Commander of Earth, A-schian’bakî was not in a good mood. She left the bridge and as she stepped out of the lift onto the 53rd deck, she kicked a lowly corporal in the hind-legs, sending him sprawling across the biomium floor. This was one of the privileges of rank that she had rarely exercised, but now she found the sadistic pleasure somewhat made up for the loss in battle of her favourite sexual toy.
Her angry mood made her long, black ears prick. She reached the highly dangerous Main Drive area of the deck and glared furiously at the iris-profile reader to open the doors. The thick doors whooshed open and she kicked a guard who had not prostrated himself.
“Next time I’ll kill you,” she barked.
She was entering the most highly-defended area of the ship, where the most top secret project had been initiated. All she wanted to do was go to her cabin, where an Ischian male waited patiently to satisfy her, but she had something important to do first.
Securely fixed in the centre of a large chamber, criss-crossed with cables, ducts and gangways, was the mutilated body of the ischian named Chu-anomm. From the stumps of amputated limbs, and from ducting inserted into her torso and head, ran pipes and electrical cabling. The umbilicals connected her to monitors and pumps placed in a rough rectangle around the harness. Intermittently a blue glow edged around cabinets and cables, making the air sizzle slightly. It made A-schian’bakî’s fur stand on end. She knew she was only safe inside the chamber for a maximum of three hundred and thirty beats. The technicians were all volunteers and would not survive until the end of the mission. The intense radiation from the gravitational distortion, and the constant disruption of their inner organs could not be countered by any Ischian technology yet.
A-schian’bakî felt sick. She ignored the enviro-suited technicians who fussed around the body, and spoke into empty space.
“Is the subject ready for Phase Two now?”
One of the technicians walked uncertainly towards the Commander. She turned the intercom switch on her chest-panel to ‘room’.
“She has made contact with the subject. We are ready to administer the drug-cocktail whenever you wish, Commander.”
“May I communicate with her?”
“That will not be possible, Commander. She is now within the space-time void. Her conscious mind inhabits a continuum beyond our reach …”
“Yes! I know all that blurb. Only the souls and all that …” But can you bring her back briefly?”
The Chief Technician considered this request briefly. “I would not advise that, Commander. We are at the limit of our technology as it is. We have struggled to get this far …”
“Very well. Inject the drug.”

Other News
Work is still continuing on the forthcoming promotional video for Iron III. Hopefully Ashley (who is acting the part of a soldier) will update us on progress on the Lazlo Ferran Facebook page

Elsewhere
I might, from time to time, comment on other events – whatever interests me. This week it’s one of my two favourite sports: Formula 1. I was very disappointed in Vettel for overtaking Mark Webber, going ahead the team’s direct instructions. It shows he is not a team player and only interested in his own career. It’s very immature. I know there is an argument that true winners – world champions, have this killer instinct that simply won’t think about ethics or team-orders or anything else other than winning. But I don’t buy that. Valentino Rossi is one of the greatest sportsmen who has every lived. He has won many world championships. And it’s also true he can be ruthless and determined to the point of recklessness. Look at the amazing overtake on Casey Stoner at Laguna Seca – an overtake that simply wasn’t on the cards. He was actually off the track on one of the most difficult corners in motorsport. It was a piece of riding that was, and is way beyond the ability of any other rider. He broke the rules – yes, but the rules of probabilty and convention, not ethics. It simply wasn’t expected. The overtake on the first race with Yamaha, when he passed Sete Gibernau is another case: he barged into Gibernau on the last corner, sending the unfortunate Spaniard off. But in my opinion it was not a deliberate barge: it was simply Rossi pushing the limits and getting it slightly wrong, while being lucky enough to get away wit hit. Luck usually does make others envious. Gibernau was furious. Morally, and ethically, I think Rossi has always managed to walk the tightrope between ambition and downright nastiness.
No, Vettel doesn’t even have the subtle deviousness of Schumacher, which usually kept you guessing which side of the ethical fence he was on. Perhaps Vettel just needs to learn subtlety if he wants to be bad, and win. To me, he showed himself for what he really is: immature and selfish, with a team behind him which calls that ‘talent’ and will support him so that he can convert his faults into wins.

Competition Time!

I hope you like the new look of the blog.I have also added a permanent link to the Lazlo Ferran Merchandise on the right in the Lazlo on the Web section of links, so you will always be able to find it. The Merchandise is part of the prize in the competition.

Competition
In line with the release of my WWII thriller Attack Hitler’s Bunker! – at the end of June, I am having a competition. Ordo Lupus and the Temple Gate: Second Edition had secret codes at the beginning of each chapter, which I hoped, added some depth to the book, once they were solved. Attack Hitler’s Bunker! will also have codes – to be broken, at the beginning of each chapter. So it seemed appopriate to base the competition on breaking one of the codes in Ordo Lupus and the Temple Gate: Second Edition.

The coded cryptic puzzle in question is at the beginning of the Epilogue. These codes are used by the Ordo Lupus to conceal their secret teachings. If you feel you have what it takes to join the Illuminati, Knights Templar (if they still existed), or the legendary Priory of Sion you will have no trouble solving this coded message. Please email me with your answer at the email address at the top of this blog.

Changes to my blog

You will see a new link to the right – Writer for hire. With the decision to write full-time for this year at least, if possible, comes the challenge of making enough money to live on. I estimate I need to sell about 12000 titles per month or 450 per day. This translates to a need to increase sales by 45/day per month until the end of the year. I don’t want to compromise too much what I am actually doing in the writing sphere so I am going to suppliment my income by hiring out my writing skills. You will find details and rates on the Writer for hire page if you click the link to the right.

New Features on Blog

Dear subscribers, you will now notice that you can subcribe for email delivery of notifications for this blog as well as RSS feeds, and you can recmmend me more easily too. You can also translate this page into many languages, follow me on Google+ and follow my twitter feed (althoug I cannot work out why you can’t see my latest 5 tweets here, which is what this device is supposed to do. If anybody knows why, please let me know) Finally, if you already follow this blog, you will probably like to add yourself to my Google+ circle or use one of the above methods to make sure you get the blogs. Until now I have only been able to notify you by commenting on my own blog which sends an email to a custom list I created. I am not going to do this for much longer.

Latest project updates

So What Have I Been Doing?

You are probably wondering what the lazy lazlo geeza has been doin’. I haven’t posted for a while. There is the excuse that I have been writing furiously. As you will see below, it has been a very creative period. However, now that I am writing full-time, I will endeavor to post at least once per week. On this blog you will find information about the latest project developments, and even some sneak-previews of what is to come.

Current project updates:

Ordo Lupus Series – there are currently no plans for a Part 3

Iron Series: Part 3, now (still provionally) titled ‘Worlds Like Dust’:

I am about 1/3 through the first draft. As I will probably post here about in the near future, the focus of the plot is evolving as I evolve as a writer. I have left off it for a while while I settle on a plot line that will satisfy me, and hopefully the reader.

Erotic Psycho-Drama

This is something I have been working on, between other projects, for a couple of years now. It really defies description but I guess it owes some inspiration to Kafka, Bukowski, and bawdy medieval writers (who it may be added, had less inhibitions that we seem to in the 21st Century). It is extremely adult in nature and I am fairly sure I will only get it published on Smashwords. If Amazon doesn’t ban it immediately, I will be shocked, and disappointed. Part of the reason I have left completing it so long is because I could not have done so while I still had a full-time job with an erudite Institution. I would have risked being instantly sacked for bringing them into disrepute. It will feature most fetishes in some way or another (some would call them perversions) so expect to be challenged. This is not one to leave around for kids to read. Having said that the hardest thing for me to get right is the serious soul of the book, which owes nothing at all to sex.

WWII Action Adventure

Provisionally titled ‘Attack Hitler’s Bunker!’ I may change this because it is too much like ‘Attack on the Iron Coast’ ( a very poor WWII film) or ‘Attack! Attack! Attack!’ (Actually quite a good movie with Jack Palance)

This is complete in draft and has had one reader complete a read through. It is currently with a member of the Stirling Aircraft Society forum who is checking it for technical accuracy. I intend publishing it in the summer, if all goes well.

WWII/Sci-fi Drama

This one is only recently started and even weirder than the Erotic Psycho-Drama above. It is not very sexual in nature though – simply surreal. I haven’t a clue where it is going and I am taking inspiration, not from my own ideas but from the relationships I am in – which I have no control over. Hence I can only write it slowly and try to be faithful to a muse who is capricious as well as shy.

Busking Book – Provisionally titled King of the Buskers

I have sent off a draft of Chapter 1 to a friend to edit. He is a professional editor as well as an old friend and has offered some help. After this, I may end up sending it to a few agents. The success of ‘A Street Cat Named Bob’ has enouraged me to continue with this. Perhaps the public has an appetite for street life now.

That’s about it folks! As you can see, I haven’t been idle! Please keep supporting me.
